Malesela already in internal struggle at Gallants?

Marumo Gallants head coach Dan Malesela could already be fighting to keep his position at the club, KickOff can exclusively reveal.

In a move that shocked the football fraternity, Gallants parted ways with former head coach Dylan Kerr last week after the English mentor cited suggestions to work with co-coaches from the club's management as a reason for him abandoning the post.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa did not waste time in finding a successor, as on the same day they revealed Malesela as new 'head coach' despite confirming in a statement that, "Following disagreements with the management team regarding the co-coaching structure and other management processes, Coach Kerr has resigned with immediate effect".

The 59-year-old revealed to this publication on the same day he was announced that he was uncertain on whether his appointment was official, as he was yet to agree terms with the club, although he eventually joined the team's training, to begin preparations for the upcoming season.

Indications from sources are that there are currently question marks on whether Gallants will keep their word in employing co-coaches before the 2024/25 campaign gets underway.

According to a source close to the club, they initially earmarked an unnamed coach from the Motsepe Foundation Championship to form a co-coaching triumvirate with Malesela and Kerr, which allegedly led to the latter's resignation.

With Malesela appointed 'head coach' and not 'interim head coach', the former Baroka FC coach is said to also be unhappy with the co-coach suggestion from the management and in particular the coach who has been recommended by management to work with him as co-coaches.

Gallants also announced that "additional technical team appointments will be made in the coming weeks".

This website understands that more members would indeed be roped in the technical team and that Malesela is fighting an internal battle to retain his 'head coach' position and fend off the co-coaches idea.
