Latest on Gallants, Celtic name change talks

Following an exclusive report by KickOff that Marumo Gallants had plans to rename the club to Bloemfontein Celtic, this publication has the latest on the story.

Gallants announced last week that their purchase of the DStv Premiership status of Marumo Gallants has been approved by the PSL.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa also confirmed that they will be relocating to Bloemfontein and promised to give further information once they have consolidated their position with their players and current staff.

Prior to the Limpopo side announcing a worst kept secret that they would be buying the status of Swallows, this website revealed in an exclusive report that Gallants' purchase of the Birds had a business consortium that partnered with Chairman Abram Sello and they had plans to rename the club to Bloemfontein Celtic.

The report further stated that the leaders of the consortium were meeting with the Celtic supporters to get their buy in the entire process.

Indication are now that the consortium operating with Gallants behind the scenes and the leadership at the Limpopo side are backtracking on the promises they made to Celtic supporters and could instead keep the name Marumo Gallants ahead of the new season.

This publication is in possession of a leaked audio from Bloemfontein Celtic supporters National Chairperson Pule Mabena, addressing the supporters in a meeting, where he expressed disappointment over promises that are seemingly not going to be met and that they will not support Gallants' initiative if they don't have a legally binding agreement.

"Leadership, rest assured, we have learned. This process we have been undergoing of the buying of our team and people coming making many promises, it has given us a lesson and we have learned the hard way," Mabena said in a meeting.

"We're not going to be mouthpieces or spokespersons for these people. Whether it is the government or whatever, they need to come and account in front of you, so that they take responsibility when things go wrong.

"Because we met them and they said this is what is going to happen and all that and when it doesn't happen, now the buck stops with us as NEC, to say, 'No you promised us this and that'," he said.

"So whoever wants to say anything, they need to come and say that in the general meeting. They must come and tell you 'we're going to do this and that' and if we agree, they must sign the documents in presence of everybody in the general meeting, so that we're on the same page."
