Marumo turn to Congolese forward

Marumo Gallants have stretched their recruitment hands beyond the borders in seeking to find solutions by bringing in Congolese forward Roland Teddy Okouri.

The Congolese (Brazzaville) has been playing for AS Otoho D'Oyo – who have been league champions for the past five years in Congo's Ligue One – and arrives at Marumo with continental experience.

He played in the CAF Champions League against Cape Town City earlier in the season playing every minute in both legs and has featured in 13 games in the two CAF inter club competitions.

A report card on the hands of this website from a contact based in Congo reveals that Okouri is a 'busy forward with an ability to score goals playing from the flanks'.

He has agreed to a deal running to the end of the season and will have 11 games to make an impact if his work permit is issued before the club's next league match.

Marumo's next league match is against TS Galaxy on March 3.

Four of their next five league matches are in the CAF Confederation Cup where they are in Group A with Al Akhdar SC (Libya), Saint-Eloi Lupopo (DR Congo), and USM Alger (Algeria).

Okouri (21) is a Congolese Under-23 international who has already been training with Marumo where he has made an impression.

While Okouri has been signed, Marumo have turned down the option to bring in another two foreign players that have been training with the club – a Brazilian and a Zambian.

The Brazilian already had a deal lined up before his arrival but turned out to be not what the club was looking for and has since flown back to South America.

Marumo have consistently failed to kill off games that they had opportunities to win due to their lack of bite upfront where Ranga Chivariro is leading the line with four league goals.
