Ajax Cape Town extend Rooi Mahamutsa contract by one month

The 38-year-old's contract was supposed to expire at the end of this month, but it has now been extended until the end of July.

"We had such players [who would have seen their contracts expiring in June] but we've extended until the end of July as per when we think the league will end," Ajax official Shoes Mekuto tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"The loan players, you always depend on the team that you loan the players from. As long as they agree, then you do the loan extension.

"You know what I can tell you, one thing about Rooi Mahamutsa, he is a seriously seasoned professional. He does not what most South African players do. He is just there for the job, and he does what he needs to do.

"He is a good motivator to his teammates and he is always present, he doesn't do anything else but just concentrate on his level of fitness."

Mekuto was asked if he thinks the former Orlando Pirates defender will still be with the club next season if they win promotion to the Absa Premiership.

"It's definitely up to the coach," he says. "Unfortunately we cannot say to a coach which player do you think will make an impact other than having names in front of him.

"But it's definitely up to the coach. But as for him, he's been a seasoned professional, no doubt about it."

Mekuto emphasised that at this stage no one is leaving the Urban Warriors.

"We are not releasing anyone. We are not going to be releasing even a single player, we are keeping the squad as it is."
