The Urban Warriors are currently sitting pretty on top of the log and look set for a return to the Premiership after two seasons in the bushes.
There is a six-point gap separating Ajax and second-placed Swallows FC, whom they meet at Rand Stadium on Tuesday (13h00) in what could well be a deciding clash in the automatic promotion race.
"Our target is 60 points, and now we've got 51 points, so we need all four wins [in our remaining matches] for us to get a small bonus," Nhlapo tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"To be honest the pressure is with us. If we draw we would be putting ourselves under pressure. We don't want that you know. We want to win every game and we are taking one game at a time.
"Yes, the belief of winning the league has been there since the beginning. Remember our first season in the NFD we didn't do well. We were still fresh from relegation, there were court cases and all that stuff you know. We played with the hope of getting back to the PSL through winning the case.
"So that didn't happen so the players' spirit was very down. As a captain my role is to motivate them. We can't mess this up now. Hey kudala sihuzuka [we've been struggling for too long] NFD is not child's play."
Nhlapo admits the Urban Warriors were worried when some suggested the season could be cancelled after working so hard to get promoted to the PSL.
"Yho! Yho! Yho! Everyone was frustrated," he admits.
"After working so hard they wanted the league to be cancelled? And NFD is something else. You find some grounds... you would think you were going to play against a kasi team."
Last week the PSL and sponsors GladAfrica launched a new NFD trophy, which of course Nhlapo would be the first captain to lift if Ajax win the league.
"Yes I saw the trophy but our mindset is not there. We are just looking at winning our remaining games," he insists. "It's not easy you know, the altitude is different from the one in Cape Town. But as soldiers we can't have excuses."
