Mark Mayambela signs for Cape Umoya United - PSL transfer news

Mark Mayambela is set to return to football action this season after signing for GladAfrica Championship side Cape Umoya United.

'Professor' has been without a team since leaving Cape Town City in 2019 following former coach Benni McCarthy's departure.

The former Orlando Pirates midfielder has now signed a short-term contract with good friend Roger de Sa's Umoya with an option to renew.

According to sources close to Mayambela, the 33-year-old had the option to move to Asia this season but opted to remain in South Africa to gain game-time and retain his fitness.

"Mark has signed with Cape Umoya. He had an option to move overseas after receiving offers from Asia but opted to sign for Umoya after being on the sidelines for a long time," a source tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"He is thrilled with the club's ambitions this season and he has belief in his abilities to help the team gain promotion to the PSL next season."
