Menzi Ndwandwe wants to leave Uthongathi FC

As reported by this website back in March, Ndwandwe, who has netted 11 times for the KwaZulu-Natal club, is eyeing a move to the Absa Premiership next season.

The Chippa United, Bloemfontein Celtic and Ajax Cape Town target reveals he has signed papers allowing him to finish the 2019/20 season despite his contract set to expire on June 30.

"After that it would be finished between us. I haven't decided where I'm going, I want to first finish the season, I don't want to rush. I want to first check which team is right for me. Obviously it was difficult for them [Uthongathi] to accept but then again it's also not easy for them to stop me."

When contacted for comment, Uthongathi CEO Jackson Mojapelo sang a different tune to Ndwandwe's claim but confirmed that the player's contract is indeed expiring.

"There's no such [laughing]. No, I was with all of them today, you know their contracts are coming to an end on the 30th. So if you want to utilise a player beyond the 30th you just have to have a document that is legal," Mojapelo explains.

"The PSL and FIFA agrees that players can play outside their contract. But you have to have an addendum that you are extending to finish the games.

"It's not for only him, it's just for everyone you know, just for them to be legal in terms of playing. All these players who have their contracts expiring this year, their cards are basically saying after the 30th of June they mustn't play.

"So the addendum is just for an extension for them to be able to play the remaining six games. It's what every team in the PSL and NFD are currently doing.

"We haven't engaged with anyone in terms of next season. I even told them that look... because some of them when they came to the office, they were under the impression that maybe we are here for new contracts [laughs]. Others even came with their representatives, their uncles whatever.

"So I even told them that I can't be negotiating new contracts as you know that we have lost a sponsor, which is the big one Absa. So the only time I can talk is when I know we have a sponsor."
