Baroka and AmaTuks pushing for play-offs

Casric Stars 2-2 Magesi FC

The champions Magesi FC were forced to come-from-behind and claim a 2-2 draw against Casric Stars in the penultimate weekend in the Motsepe Foundation Championship on Sunday.

The newly-crowned champions were on the back-foot in the opening quarter as a quick fire double from Decide Chauke gave the host the front-foot.

Nonetheless, Clinton Larsen's men did have a reprieve albeit late in the first spell when Wonderboy Makhubu fired in to halve the arrears.

The holders didn't drop their heads but kept the faith and claimed a point as substitute and the well-travelled Rhulani Manzini netted in the equaliser.

Pretoria Callies 1-1 University of Pretoria

University of Pretoria needed a late response to get out of jail and forced a 1-1 draw against Pretoria Callies in the Tshwane derby.

With no goals for large spells, the contest finally opened up when the Romans hit the front two minutes to the end through Mabaso.

Although, with a win looming large, AmaTuks managed to snatch a point as Delano Abrahams came off the bench to fire in before Samuel Julies had a spot-kick missed too.

Baroka FC 1-1 JDR Stars

Baroka FC remained in the hunt for a play-off position in the top-three following a 1-1 draw with JDR Stars at the Global Stadium.

Bakgaga Ba Ga Mphahlele made the worst possible start and trailed the Hammerboys, who hit the front earlier on courtesy of veteran striker Prince Nxumalo.

After a stuttering spell, the host were rewarded deep in the contest when sharp instincts from substitute Madingwa Lekoloane allowed him to turn in a rebound from a free-kick.

Maritzburg United 0-0 Platinum City Rovers

Maritzburg United failed to strengthen fifth-place and make it two wins in a row after coming unstuck in a goalless draw with the relegated Platinum City Rovers.

The Team of Choice were victorious last weekend against Hungry Lions, while a heavy defeat at Casric Stars confirmed Rovers' demotion to the ABC Motsepe League.

NB La Masia 0-1 Marumo Gallants FC

NB La Masia dropped into the bottom-two spot after going down 1-0 to ten-man Marumo Gallants FC in a relegation six-pointer.

As the clash remained tense right from the onset, Bahlabane Ba Ntwa managed to get over the line as Masindi Nemtajela got what would prove to be the winner.

It didn't end pretty for the scorer, who was given his marching orders by the man in the middle five minutes before the end.

Orbit College 1-2 Upington City

Upington City cemented sixth-place and recorded back-to-back victories following a 2-1 victory over Orbit College in Rustenburg.

Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Keletso Makgalwa got the opener on the half-hour mark following a tough start to the contest.

Makgalwa continued to influence proceedings and used his intelligence to set-up Bafana Mokwena for the second and doubled their advantage.

With Orbit replying not long thereafter, Bafana Ba Gucci were able to hold firm and in the end collected the victory.

Hungry Lions 2-0 Black Leopards

Hungry Lions moved one spot from ninth to eight spot on the table all through a 2-0 win over Black Leopards in the penultimate weekend in the Championship.

After a tense opening, Di Tau made the breakthrough all through the services of Baxolise Khotso and left Lidoda Duvha on the back-foot at the interval.

The dominance continued from the Kimberley-based boys, who doubled the lead through Tshepang Selemogo in the second half and steered them to victory.

Venda Football Academy 1-0 Milford Stallions

Venda Football Academy closed-in to the top-half bracket after a late surge saw them overcome Milford Stallions 1-0 in Thohoyandou.

It's a second straight win for Venda, with Milford dropping down to the bottom-three on the back of the loss as Banele Gama separated the outfits.
