Nasief Morris appointed new Steenberg United head coach

Steenberg looked set for a takeover and relocated to Johannesburg after finishing ninth in the 16-team first division last season but the proposed sale is said to have been blocked by the PSL.

And after the sudden u-turn, the club owned by local businessman Ferdinand Jacobs has parted ways with Theo Hempe and appointed the 37-time capped South Africa international ahead of the 2020/21 season.

This website understands the playing squad and coaching staff were all informed this weekend about the sale reversal and were instructed to meet at the Chukker Road Sports Complex for trials after all contracts were rescinded last month.

"Yes, it's true," the 39-year old former Panathinaikos defender told snl24.com/kickoff. "I'm looking forward to my new challenge."

Morris, who previously coached in the ABC Motsepe League with Ikapa Sportin, is considered as one of the country's finest exports having played in the UEFA Champions League and LaLiga during a career that spanned over two decades.
