RISING STARS: Manzini catching the eye?

One of the Motsepe Foundation Championship's surprise moves could see rising star Eltom Manzini make the climb up to the Betway Premiership before the start of the new season.

The 22-year-old is a free agent after parting ways with the now-relegated NB La Masia.

Manzini was among 16 new faces at the Westbury-based outfit.

Former Mamelodi Sundowns head coach - and current Wydad Casablanca tactician - Rulani Mokwena named Manzini among the players that had impressed him as he was scouting the team prior to their Nedbank Cup Last 32 fixture.

"Against Venda FC, they played away from home, but they played open, possession, build-ups," Mokwena told journalists after the match when asked if he had been surprised by La Masia's attack-minded tactics.

"Against JDR, they played the same, against TUKS they played the same, against Sekhukhune United in a friendly match on Johannesburg Stadium, they played the same.

"So, when I watch them and see almost the same players... [Thamsanqa] Ngobeza on the right, good player; Kayden [Rademeyer] on the left, inverting, good player; [Faud] Johnson on the wing, excellent player; Ryan Baatjies the central midfielder, very aggressive in the duels.

Stand a chance to win a Mamelodi Sundowns Home and Away Replica shirts for the 2024/25 season; valued at R1199 per shirt.

"The captain, very good player and even Manzini, who I thought would start, they brought him on in the second half – great second half, great potential there."
