Royal Eagles coach Phuti Mohafe quits

Mohafe was in charge when the GladAfrica Championship side lost to Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup in February this year.

He was demoted to an assistant position when Eagles hired journeyman Milton Dlamini, who has also since left the cash-strapped club.

Eagles CEO Morgan Mammila has also returned to Chippa United to take up a general manager position.

"Never! No, I'm no longer going back there," Mohafe tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"There are a lot of issues there no, no, no. I'm not going back. My contract finished end of June. Nothing has been communicated to me... Morgan is the one I used to communicate with.

"I went there because of Morgan. His departure ruined everything. So at the moment I'm at home, sitting in the sun. I'll see when I will start looking for a job again.

"If a contract ends it means it should be renewed. I was not even told about the remaining games, nothing. We were told to come back when the season re-opened, but I didn't go back there.

"They thought corona was going to end before our contracts finished, so when contracts end what are you saying as a team owner? If you are quiet, me as an employee I will not chase after you.

"That team is full of stories man. Let me put it this way, you are a coach but you work with someone who is not happy... the players are not happy. So how are you going to win matches if people are not happy?

"I'm enough with that club. And even the way the team is run... hayi khona! No, no, no. No professionalism at all. Let me just say, the main big problem there is finance. That's the big problem."

Eagles chairman Sbu Mpisane could not be reached for a comment.
