Nomvethe joined the KwaZulu-Natal club when he came out of retirement in December 2019.
Despite making only eight appearances last season, in back October the 42-year-old informed this website of his intention to continue with the club in 2020/21 season.
"I'm still with Uthongathi, I haven't started training yet but I'm continuing with them," Nomvethe said at the time.
But today Uthongathi general manager Jackson Mojapelo reveals that he club has decided to part ways with the veteran striker.
"No, he's leaving my brother," Mojapelo tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"I think the man has served South African football. He played very well towards the end of the season, but it's right for him to sit down while he has made a good mark you see.
"There's nothing much, it's not like we didn't agree terms or what. He has played his role, he can rest now."
Asked if by that he meant the player was now retiring from playing football, Mojapelo is unsure.
"Well, I can't confirm whether he is retiring or what. Tomorrow you might see him at Sekhukhune and then ask me, 'But Jackson, you said he is retiring?' But what I can tell you, he has closed the chapter with us.
"Remember, it's us who tells him it's finished so we can't really say where he is going afterwards, even if he says he is going to another club. We were just closing our own chapter with him."
Nomvethe promised to do an interview with about his future but when called again his phone rang unanswered.
Mojapelo also gave an update on player movements at the club after losing several of their best players at the end of last season.
"Remember, the likes of Zuke, [Siyanda] Zwane, [Thanduyise] Khuboni have also left," he adds. "As you can see, the likes of [Cheslyn] Jampies, [Njabulo] Ngcobo are in the PSL. We have lost a lot of players but yes, we have signed a number of players."
