Siyanda Zwane reveals family rituals forced him to leave Bidvest Wits

The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows defender moved to Wits last July but joined Uthongathi in the latest January transfer window.

He has now revealed that his time at Wits was cut short due to family matters that needed his attention in Durban.

"To be honest, I wouldn't say me and coach Gavin Hunt had a bad relationship," Zwane said after his side's 1-1 draw with Cape Umoya United at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Saturday.

"I had to sort out my rituals matters which needed me to be always around home. I have a calling which affected my performance and I had to return home to accept the calling."

The 34-year-old, who has won almost every trophy in the country including the CAF Champions League and Absa Premiership, says he spoke to Hunt about the situation to make him understand.

"Leaving Wits had nothing to do with my career. I spoke to the coach that I needed to be closer to home, I had to do with the rituals," he said.

"Now I'm closer to home to sort out those matters. All these years I've been trying to ignore the signs but this time I had to do this for my future."

Zwane is confident he will return to the top-flight come the 2020/21 season and his dream is to go back there with Uthongathi.

"I have a six-month contract and would love to help them get promotion as my focus is to return to top-flight football next season," he added.

Uthongathi are in second in the GladAfrica Championship, five points behind leaders Ajax Cape Town.
