Uthongathi tip Siyabonga Nomvethe to play coaching role

Nomvethe is a legendary figure in the history of South African football who played in Europe and also represented Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Moroka Swallows and AmaZulu, winning individual accolades and team trophies.

'Bhele' proudly holds the record for the most goals scored in PSL-era competitions after banging in 123 goals on domestic shores since 1997.

Khenyeza, who is now head coach of TS Galaxy, finished his playing career just behind Nomvethe on 110 goals and both former strikers have followed a similar path via Usuthu to the NFD.

At 42, Nomvethe is still going strong playing in the GladAfrica Championship for Uthongathi and the club has given an update on him, with his contract coming to an end in June.

"Personally I see Siyabonga Nomvethe contributing a lot in South African football. He can be a good coach and has shown those signs in the team," club official Nkosinathi Chili tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"I can't really say he will coach Uthongathi FC for now, but from a personal point of view I see him being the next top coach in the country. About his future, it will be discussed when the time is right.

"He has a lot of understanding about football, he's very sharp in his analysis, and with more education in coaching I see him becoming a good coach in the future."

Uthongathi recently fired their coach Johnny Ferreira after a poor run of form which saw them lose top spot to Ajax Cape Town in the league.

The Cane Cutters were seven points behind the leaders in third place before all PSL competitions were suspended, a point behind Swallows FC.
