Taylor was in charge of the team as head coach Roger de Sa was serving a suspension, and he feels Bucs should have capitalised from the chances they had in the game.
Lehlohonolo Majoro, who was leading the attack, was the main culprit as he missed a couple of chances in the game before he was substituted in the second half, making way for debutant Siphamandla Sangweni.
“I think they had chances, but from our mistakes. Good teams take those chances. I'm not saying they are not a good team but on the night, they didn't capitalise on them and at the end it counted against them,” Taylor said.
“For us we have to improve on those things, especially in the first half in crucial times of the game, especially in the beginning of the game. We need to improve on those things.”
Taylor, meanwhile, was pleased with the result and feels that they defended well after they took the lead through Ndiviwe Mdabuka.
“We are young team that can play football. We haven't traveled that well but we tried to turn it around against Pirates. I think we were up for it. I think we were the more hungry team on the day.
“I thought it was a typical first game of the season, it wasn’t pretty in the first half. Both teams made errors in the first half. A lot of chances came from those mistakes.
“In the second half, we upped the game a bit and we got a goal. Once we got a goal we knew they will come at us, so at the end of the day it was all about defending and I thought we defended quite well to hold on and we are obviously happy with a win and we are looking forward to the semi-final.”
