READ: Kingston - It's a team effort
Chiefs are on a 10-game winning streak, with their latest victory coming in their MTN8 Final triumph over Orlando Pirates at the weekend.
“We saw a quote last season when Manchester City took back their [Premier League] title – it was a quote by Vincent Kompany. He said, ‘When we came back we decided that we will just try to be better than last year, and all the focus was on just trying to be better than last year’,” explains Baxter.
“And we used that quote at the beginning of this season, and we said, ‘Look, what do we need to do better?’ We identified a couple of things and then said, ‘If we can do that five percent better,’ and everyone agreed that we can, then that’s what we did.
“Our possession game when we don’t have an opportunity to make a quick transition has improved – we’ve worked very hard on it; our movement around the box has improved,” he adds.
The former Bafana mentor also credits his players for the improvements that they have made as a team, specifically noting their mentality in handling the expectations from supporters and the media.
“We’ve improved the things that we can, and it’s a big credit to the players because they’ve shown a steely mentality; because always at Chiefs and Pirates people expect better, so you’ve got to improve.
“But even if you improve people expected it anyway so I think the players deserve a lot of credit, because it’s not easy [dealing with that],” concludes the Brit.
What do you think of the Kaizer Chiefs players’ improvements in their performances this season, and who do you feel has improved the most?
