MTN8 Final, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs strikers must shine

The retired forward – a prolific scorer during his playing days with Jomo Cosmos, Mamelodi Sundwons, Leeds United and Bafana Bafana – is challenging the strikers of the two Soweto-based clubs to adopt an offensive mentality tomorrow.

“It will be very difficult to predict the winner but I think there is an incentive for the strikers,” Masinga told this website.

“The national team coach, Bra Shakes, will be watching so it will be important for players such as [Kermit] Erasmus, [Lehlohonolo] Majoro and [Bernard] Parker to show him that they deserve a place in the team that will face Congo.

“In the past, Derbies between these two teams have not produced many goals. If this one becomes another low scoring game it would be such a pity for the fans.”

Both Chiefs and Pirates have been playing an attacking brand of football in the League and Masinga believes this could be the perfect tonic to ignite their clash tomorrow.

Previous clashes between the two arch rivals have often provided little in terms of attacking play. However, this time, according to Masinga, things are likely to be different.

“A lot has been said about the need for an experienced striker in the Bafana Bafana setup and we are talking about two of the biggest clubs in South Africa playing against each other.

“This is the chance for these players to prove that they can deliver. If this game does not motivate them to score goals, then I do not know what will,” explains the retired forward.
