Steve Komphela promises attacking Kaizer Chiefs

The former Bafana Bafana coach has a tough ask following in the footsteps of Stuart Baxter and his trophy-winning ways, but as expected he is saying all the right things as the start of the season approaches.

“Kaizer Chiefs falls into a category where we say, ‘we have to win’. This team has a traditional culture of winning, and we also want to be part of that legacy,” Komphela told SABCSport.

“Our winning should not be naked. Our winning should be dressed sensibly; a win that pleases the eye; a win that attracts so that if we had 20 000 fans on the night, if we had to play the next day, there should be 20 001 – someone must have been attracted. It’s a show, and people have to enjoy the show.

“I hardly watch teams that just play football. I watch teams that are artistic and, given an opportunity to have players who have the ability to be artistic in their performances, why not then trigger that? Attractive, attacking football is key.”

Chiefs face Orlando Pirates in the Carling Black Label Cup next weekend, before facing Maritzburg United in the MTN8 on August 5.
