Sundowns coach Mosimane downplays pre-season success ahead of MTN8 opener with Bloem Celtic

The Brazilians enjoyed an impressive pre-season where they had successful tours in Zambia and Namibia, and also won the eTV Charity Showdown.

Mosimane, however, is mindful such contests have their limits when gauging his team's readiness for the campaign.

“You can only tell from the game. Once the game starts you will be able to say where you are. But I can tell you where I believe at this point in time we are,” Mosimane says.

“On the positive side, I think of all our games we have drawn one and won the others. I think we played about nine and obviously it is pre-season games, you don't take much out of pre-season.

“Pre-season winnings are good for confidence, are good for momentum. But the danger of that is that sometimes you win a lot of pre-season games then you think you have arrived at the right point.

“The only time when you know you have arrived is when you win the game itself.

Mosimane adds: “Even the MTN8 is not really going to determine where we are really are, but it will show some signs of what is coming next.

“So on the positive side, we played a few tournaments and we have won them. We've not lost a game and we have been scoring goals.”
