Chippa United coach Teboho Moloi believes they can win the Nedbank Cup

Chippa were knocked out in the semi-finals of the 32-team competition last season by eventual champions SuperSport United and return this year hoping to go further. They have been drawn to play a SAFA Mpumalanga team which will only be confirmed once the play off match in that region has been played.

The draw was conducted in Sandton on Monday night.

“We are away to whoever qualifies. This is a tournament where you cannot underestimate anybody. It’s a difficult draw because we do not know our opponent, so we need to prepare well and not underestimate anyone,” he said.

“It’s my wish to win this tournament because I want my boys to get the experience of playing on the continent. The continent really teaches players a lot of things, so it’s an important trophy. The players should relax and enjoy the moment.

“I think it’s possible for us to win it because the team got to the semi. This time they have to try go all the way and reach the final.”

Meanwhile, Chippa have been linked with Free State Stars strikers Edward Manqele and Mohammed Anas.

Moloi did not want to give much away when asked about the players, but said chairman Chippa Mpengesi always has an ace up his sleeve.

“So far everything is going well, but the chairman always has an ace up his sleeve. The players could come now or later in the season,” the former Orlando Pirates assistant coach said.

Chippa, who are currently sitting in eighth place on the Absa Premiership standings, take on Golden Arrows at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday, looking to get back to winning ways after Bidvest Wits held them to a draw at the same venue last weekend.
