Coach Thami Ngubane hails KwaDukuza United Nedbank Cup achievement

Ngubane, who came close to shocking Orlando Pirates in the 2014 edition of the Nedbank Cup round of 32 when he was in charge of Thanda Royal Zulu, said at the press conference in midweek that he felt Stanley Menzo may tinker with his starting line-up because they are still in the danger zone in the Absa Premiership.

The Cape-based side left out seasoned campaigners from the starting line-up such as Nathan Paulse, Abel Mabaso, Bantu Mzwakali and Lebogang Mokoena, whilst Thabo Mosadi and Mark Mayambela were not part of the traveling squad.

Despite twice conceding the lead the Black Jaguars came back each time as the game ended 2-2 after 120 minutes before the shootout win, much to the delirium of the fans in the stands at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.

“Like I said, we had an advantage coming to this game because we knew what they are about," Ngubane said after Saturday’s victory.

“If you remember in the press conference I mentioned that I foresee a situation whereby they'll change their team a little bit and use some of the youngsters and that made the game to be quality on our side.

“But I believe the boys did very well today and more especially coming back from conceding the early goal. I believe they showed a lot of character today.”

Prince Nxumalo was causing lot of havoc for the home side and won a lot of balls in the box, but Ngubane knew how to deal with him because he coached the Umlazi-born striker during his earlier development.

“It was easy for me to deal with a player like Prince and it's always difficult to deal with a player of his calibre,” said Ngubane.

“But fortunately I know his strengths and weaknesses because I once coached him at the development structures. But overall I believe the entire team did very well.”

The historic win for the club was marred by an injury to Bhekekhaya Makhanya, who seemed to have broken his shin bone after he collided with Ayanda Makua. He was stretchered off in tears.
