Gavin Hunt feels Cape Town City were unlucky to lose to Sundowns after Percy Tau's individual brilliance

Tau put in a man-of-the-match performance as he led The Brazilians to a 1-0 Absa Premiership victory over the Citizens in a top-of-the-table clash at Athlone Stadium.

The Bafana Bafana forward played an integral role in the build-up to Khama Billiat’s excellently taken goal, beating two defenders en-route to City's 18-yard area, before flicking the ball up and picking out the Zimbabwean international unmarked at the penalty spot.

Coming up against the Cape-based side in a Nedbank Cup clash on Wednesday, Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt says Tau’s brilliance completely overshadowed a valiant effort put in by the home side.

“I don’t think they [Cape Town City] have really been struggling. I thought they were very good on Friday night – if you look at their last game, I thought they were excellent,” said Hunt.

“They should have won the game, if you look at it. They had enough opportunities and then obviously the quality of the other side [Sundowns] came through.

“I mean, what Percy Tau did was unbelievable – I’ve never in my life [seen something like that]. If [Lionel] Messi did that it would be on the front page [of newspapers].

“What Tau did was unbelievable – to flick the ball up like that and flick it back inside [toward Billiat] – Jesus; he’s fantastic.”

Hunt is also unconvinced that, despite winning only one of their last four games, the wheels are beginning to come off for Benni McCarthy’s side, who he instead feels are having a great season thus far.

“Cape Town City were very unfortunate. I thought they were good. They pressed, worked hard and … that’s football. I don’t think they’re going through a bad patch at all.

“They’re safe, they got into a cup final this year and they’ve done great. And, what he’s done is changed the team quite a bit and still kept the results coming – people forget that.”

Wits host City in a do-or-die encounter at Bidvest Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 19h30.
