Khune is currently in his 11th PSL season, having made his professional debut for Amakhosi in the 2007/08 Absa Premiership campaign, and recently earned his 300th start for the club.
The 30-year-old has also established himself as the country’s number-one shot-stopper, having amassed close to 90 Bafana Bafana caps since his senior international debut in 2008.
However, despite his consistent brilliance for both club and country over the years, he has yet to test his ability in Europe, like his Chiefs and Bafana predecessor Rowen Fernandez.
Though this does not concern Khune, who has resigned himself to continuing at his level best on home soil, but he refuses to rule out any possibility of accepting offers for his services.
“Apparently I was told that I’m too short, but the shorter you are the more agile you are. I think I’m agile enough and I actually jump higher than most taller goalkeepers,” defended Khune.
“Yes, I always think about it [moving to Europe] but at the same time I just have to accept, because I’m happy where I am but not too comfortable.
“I will continue working hard. If a team is interested in my services then they will contact the club [Chiefs] and I will go and represent them well.
“But, if it doesn’t happen I will just have to set my mind here in South Africa. If I have to retire here, there are many goalkeepers who retired playing at home.
“So, I just want to run my race here in South Africa and continue reaching such milestones like I just did.”
'Itu' is currently on national duty, with Bafana taking part in a four-nations tournament in Zambia, involving the hosts, Zimbabwe and Angola.
