Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso felt they could have prevented Stellenbosch from scoring

A goal in each half from Erick Mathoho and Leonardo Castro handed Chiefs a 2-1 win over the National First Division outfit.

Cardoso was named Man of the Match and he felt hey could have prevented the visitors from getting on the scoresheet.

“I feel good. It’s always good to get an accolade like this. It was a hard fought victory. Stellenbosch is a good side. They came at us in the end it’s unfortunate that we conceded towards the end. But we came away victorious so we’re back on the road going into the next round,” Cardoso told SuperSport TV.

“I think we could have defended better. We knew the ball was going to come at the near post. It was a lucky flick for one of their players and we didn’t get in front in time.

“We went into the final third very well tonight but we lost the ball in the wrong areas in the end we could have just held the ball in the corners instead of doing that we gave the ball away and they started to come at us on a counter-attack. They had three upfront and with three of us at the back we always had to call players so next time we just have to go to the corners and keep it there.”
