The 22-year-old capped his man-of-the-match performance with two goals as his beat TS Sporting 2-1 in Mbombela on Sunday to march to the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup.
The KwaZulu-Natal side are now set to meet Chippa United in the last eight of the Ke Yona tournament and are also top of the GladAfrica Championship by three points.
Mayo says he is focusing on the big chunk of meat, which is helping take Richards Bay to the DStv Premiership next season.
"Last season I scored nine goals and the main focus this season is to break that and help the club go to the PSL next season," he tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"So far I have scored seven goals, five in the league and two in the cup tournament. It's work in progress and I think the results are starting to show that our intentions are going to the PSL next season."
Mayo was hailed as one of the country's brightest prospects after his exploits with the under-17 national team before he was snatched by SuperSport United, but he quickly disappeared from the scene only to resurface in the first division.
"I have put behind everything me that happened in the past," he says. "I had to leave SuperSport United because I wanted to seek greener pastures. I was still young and growing up while at SuperSport. I learnt a lot from SuperSport.
"I am grateful for the role they played to groom me to become a better player. I cannot also forget Chippa United for giving me a platform to showcase my talent."
The Eastern Cape-born striker and son of Kaizer Chiefs legend Patrick Mayo has already attracted interest from a number of PSL clubs.
Mayo's contract with Richards Bay is set to expire in June next year.
"I can't talk about things happening outside football and I leave that to my agent," he adds.
