The NFD side lost 3-0 on penalties to Usuthu after 120 minutes of football produced a 2-2 draw at Umlazi’s King Zwelithini Stadium in midweek.
Bucks, who languish in the drop zone with 10 games left, will continue their bid for survival against high-flying University of Pretoria at home on February 17.
“I’m happy about this performance but penalties are penalties. We did practise them but we were unfortunate,” Lechesa said.
“I’m not disappointed. We were unfortunate, we did lose on penalties and I’m happy with that.
“Going back to the NFD, which is our bread and butter, we’ll take the form in the hope to do our best.
“Yes, being where we are is a concern. We told ourselves we shouldn’t be six points [away from other teams in the bottom half] because it’s going to be difficult. But the teams that are above us are on 21, 22 points - so it’s a point, two points from us. So we have to keep it like that.”
Lechesa has guided the Eastern Cape-based side in seven matches since taking over the reins from Ian Palmer late last year. He feels his charges are starting to grasp his instructions and pointed out he recruited heavily in the January transfer window.
“There are a lot of factors,” he said when asked about the team's struggles.
“But they are starting to understand what I want and we strengthened the team. This is not the team that played the first half of the season.
“I brought about seven, eight players; goalkeeper, midfielders. We didn’t have good personnel at that time but now I’d say we got the strength in each and every department. And injuries... everyone is back.
“In our next 10 games left, it’s war. We got six at home and I hope this form [against Usuthu] doesn’t go to my players’ heads. They must focus on the next games.”
Lechesa also confirmed Luyolo Nomandela has been disciplined for breaking a team curfew and remains part of his plans.
