North West businesswoman reveals Nedbank Cup dream

North West businesswoman Sibongile Marokana has dangled a big carrot in front of her players if they win the Nedbank Cup this season.

Marokana, owner of Lerumo Lions FC and a philanthropist, is determined to use the cup competition to change the lives of many people in the North West province.

The Lions are currently campaigning in the ABC Motsepe League in the North West.

They have been pitted against Durban City in the Nedbank Cup's Last 32. The PSL has yet to confirm the dates, venues and times for this round of fixtures.

Marokana has welcomed the draw against Durban City even though would have loved to play against a particular Soweto giant.

"Definitely not [Orlando] Pirates, and not [Mamelodi] Sundowns. Let's leave it there.

"It would have been great to play against Kaizer Chiefs. But I am happy about the draw and I am excited about it," Marokana tells KickOff.com.

"We are excited and looking forward to it.  It's going to be a great platform for my boys to showcase their talent. Durban City is number one on the [Motsepe Foundation Championship] log and this will be a great challenge for my team.

"Don't underestimate the underdogs because they will end up being top dogs," she warned.

Morokane is not only passionate about football but also charity to uplift the community.

"For me, it's a blessing. Most importantly, it's a dream come true and unfolding in front of our eyes. Most people would say this is not possible, but we're making it possible. I am very excited. I know my players believe in themselves, they believe in the team, and they believe in the success of the team. This is a step closer to our dream.

"If we win this cup, a lot of charities will benefit, but the players [will] get much more, to say thank for the hard work."
