Manqoba Mngqithi reveals Mamelodi Sundowns were only concerned about getting a win against Cape Town All Stars

Sundowns advanced to the next round of the Nedbank Cup after the defeating the Natiaonal First Division 1-0 thanks to Percy Tau's second-half strike.

“We were playing against a very good team and if we came here with emotions and rushed, we were going to be punished. So it was always important to manage the game, drag it a little bit longer we know their legs will tire,” Mngqithi told SuperSport TV.

“Keep possession of the ball which in many instances we lost it cheaply. But honestly speaking credit must be given to their coach [Brandon Truter]. I believe they have assembled a very good team. The football they play is very constructive, structurally correct but I believe we gave them too much space in the first half in their last line.

“We knew what was important was how we manage their midfielders after they have received the ball and not allow them to play too many balls forward which I think we managed. I need to give credit to the team. We played a very good team but all we needed was to win and that is what we have achieved.”
