Maritzburg United's Siya Mdluli pleased Fadlu Davids can draw on MultiChoice Diski Challenge side

Maritzburg were without key quartet Deolin Mekoa, Bevan Fransman, Bandile Shandu and Siphesihle Ndlovu through suspension on the weekend, but managed to edge ABC Motsepe League side Swallows FC 3-1 afer extra-time at Dobsonville Stadium.

“It says a lot, not to me alone, but to all the coaches that are participating in our development structures. Credit must go to them, they are working very hard to get these young boys in shape,” Mdluli told United's website.

“And also the players themselves, for raising up their hands and working hard, taking some positive steps forward. So yes, as a coach it's always great to see the players developing well and going up to the first team.

“So far the effort in each and every game we have played, the players have given their best. Yes, they are still young and will make mistakes, and we do understand as coaches that it's part of their learning. But overall I am very happy with the contribution and attitude the youngsters are giving us.”

Meanwhile, Mdluli has not given up on his side pipping Golden Arrows to the post in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge.

Arrows enjoy a four-point lead over Bloemfontein Celtic at the MDC summit with two matches remaining. Mdluli knows the odds are against his team, who are a further point off the pace alongside Ajax Cape Town. However, he is trying to keep his men focused for Saturday's clash with 13th-placed AmaZulu at Tembisa's Makhulong Stadium (10h00 kick-off).

“I don’t want to put pressure on the players or myself. We’ll focus on the AmaZulu game, try get the three points, and take it from there. I’m not eyeing anything past the AmaZulu match for now,” he pointed out.

“Derbies always have special treatment, even in the Reserve League. We cannot fool ourselves by thinking AmaZulu have not had a good season. In their last few games they have been doing well, they beat Bloemfontein Celtic who were second on the table, so I’m expecting a tough match on the weekend.”
