Nedbank Cup last 32 match report Kaizer Chiefs v Golden Arrows 11 February 2018

The Amakhosi pulled out the big guns, handing a starting berth to Siphelele Ntshangase and Leonardo Castro in attack.

Zimbabwean Willard Katsande got on the end of a looping header at the back-post, but failed in his attempt to direct it on goal.

Castro shrugged off two players, controlled perfectly before unleashing a shot which got blocked off by the opposing defence on its way to goal.

Abafana Besthende looked extremely threatening on the counterattack, and almost went ahead after poor defending allowed debutant Siboniso Conco through to goal, but he failed to hit the target.

Castro continued to pile the pressure after skillfully beating two players, he forced Maximilian Mbaeva to make the game’s first save after 13 minutes.

The game was opening up at either ends, with the visitors going close when Kudakwashe Mahachi outsprinted Philani Zulu but missed the target.

The visitors were dealt an early blow when Mahachi left the field through injury after 18 minutes. He was replaced by Nduduzo Sibaya.

The Glamour Boys appeal for a penalty fell on deaf ears from a corner, which disinterested referee Thando Ndzandzeka.

Velemseni Ndwandwe came up with a good save to test Itumeleng Khune, who came up with the game’s best save moments before the break.

The Naturena-based club finally went ahead with Ryan Moon continuing his goal-scoring form with an instant finish from Katsande’s delivery following a corner in the 53rd minute.

Mzwandile Buthelezi nearly put the ball in his own net after trying to clear Joseph Molangoane’s cross, with the ascendancy firmly on the hosts.

Khune was called to their rescue again to keep the scores in their favour with a point-blank save to deny Knox Mutizwa.

Bernard Parker, who replaced Castro, marked his return with the second 10 minutes to full time after he rounded Mbaeva for an easy tap-in.

At the other end, Yusuf Jappie got the best out of Khune for the umpteenth time with an accurate header.

Molangoane rounded off the win for the Amakhosi with a comfortable tap-in off Ramahlwe Mphahlele’s cross.
