Nedbank Cup match report AmaTuks v Chippa United 04 February 2022

University of Pretoria secured passage to the Nedbank Cup last 16 with a 2-0 win over Chippa United on Friday afternoon.

There were Chippa debuts for signing Ronald Pfumbidzai and Vernan Champer, while Tuks handed goalkeeper Thakasani Mbanjwa and Keagan Allan a recall.

AmaTuks were certain of a positive start minutes in after a cutback into the area from Thabang Sibanyoni culminated to a snap shot that didn't trouble goalkeeper Ayanda Mtshali.

The match was stopped for close to an hour following inclement weather conditions, and after the resumption AmaTuks continued to find openings which Etiosa Ighodaro in particular squandered.

Chippa suppressed their nervous opening quarter and a curling free-kick from Thokozani Sekotlong which fizzled past the far corner became their first major threat.

Kurt Lentjies made a substitution following the start of the second half with Mogakolodi Ngele introduced and Maloisane Mokhele removed from the field of play.

Ngele nearly had a telling impact two minutes after coming on when his in-swinging corner-kick met the head of Vuleyeke Zulu who headed wide of target.

AmaTuks battled to get time on the ball moments inside the second period and thus more chances came the way of Chippa when Pfumbidzai headed over a corner by Ngele.

The home outfit grew strong in the final ten minutes and took the lead after Lulama Maqoko attacked a cross from the left by Siyanda Msani to head in from close-range.

It was two inside a minute when sloppy piece of defending from Mtshali allowed Kamogelo Pheeane to pounce and curl in from a tight angle.

The Chilli Boys looked to turn the contest around in the final few minutes, but they weren't able to infiltrate AmaTuks' defensive block which saw the match end 2-0.
