Chippa United defeated Polokwane City on penalties to secure their spot in the Nedbank Cup last 16 on Tuesday night.
Meshack Maphangule made his second debut for Chippa, who also re-called goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili and Abdi Banda after their 2-1 loss to Stellenbosch FC in their last match.
It was a perfect start for City three minutes in as a stray pass around the area fell directly to Francis Baloyi and the forward charged ahead and finished coolly beyond Nwabili.
Nonetheless, Chippa hit back on 12 minutes after Thabiso Lebitso shrugged off one challenge and ran into the right of the area before slotting in via a deflection off Bulelani Nikani.
Rise and Shine should've gone back ahead on the half-hour mark with a tap-in from Mokibelo Ramabu following a clear cross, but with the goal in plain sight he ballooned over.
Chippa could've taken the lead themselves just ahead of halftime through a header by Etiosa Ighodaro from a cross in the area, but Manuel Sapunga parried and kept it level.
The visiting team put on a substitution before the second half commenced when Sirgio Kammies replaced the debutant Maphangule.
Rise and Shine were revived particularly in the last third midway in the second half and opened up a chance as a snap shot in the area from Ramabu forced Nwabili into a save.
Nwabili was at it again just before full-time when he produced a spectacular finger-tip save to thwart the effort of Puleng Marema and sent the clash to extra-time.
Following a quiet start to extra-time, the match came alive and saw the Chilli Boys threaten with a shot from Elmo Kambindu although it was gathered by Sapunga.
Kambindu went close again after a few moments with a strong header that was headed goal-bound, but Sapunga made another stop and forced the match to a penalty shoot-out.
Rise and Shine missed two of their spot-kicks, as the Chilli Boys kept their cool in the shoot-out and grabbed the win to seal a spot in the next round.
