Sekhukhune United defeated Cape Town City 2-0 to advance to the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup on Monday evening.
Sekhukhune gave a first start to Elis Rammala and welcomed back Sipho Mbule and Thabang Monare following the loss to Kaizer Chiefs.
The match failed to liven up in the earlier stages, with matters extremely tight all-round and very much limited the chances to grabbing the deadlock.
The Citizens carved out the best chance of the opening spell when Thabo Nodada steered a cutback wide of the bottom-corner from close range.
The aggressive press by the host through Mbule and Andy Boyeli denied the Citizens to play their usual game and build-up from the back.
In a surprise move, City made a goalkeeping change at halftime with Elson Sithole on for Darren Keet and also threw Shakeel April on for Aprocius Petrus.
Babina Noko showed force under 12 minutes from the return when Katlego Otladisa dropped a shoulder outside the box to curl into the bottom-corner for the opening goal.
City battled to find a response inside the latter periods, with the host heavily buoyed by the breakthrough and eager to further stamp their authority
However, it was Babina Noko who got the next goal when a curling delivery from a corner found Relebogile Mokhuouane to head in off the far post against his former side.
Like the Citizens, the host were required to a goalkeeping change too albeit in added time when Badra Ali Sangare vacated through injury to see Lloyd Kazapua come on.
Sekhukhune still enjoyed a comfortable close and secured the win to gain passage to the last 16 of the tournament.
