Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker was proud of his side's display against Kaizer Chiefs

The National First Division side showed a good account of themselves as they went down 2-1 to the Soweto giants on Saturday.

Barker did admit that his side lacked the quality upfront, but he maintains they gave Chiefs a run for their money.

“Firstly, congratulations to Kaizer Chiefs I wish them all the best for the rest of the competition. It was a tough game for us. We lacked a bit of quality in the final third in the first half,” Barker told SuperSport TV.

“When we got the goal back I thought maybe we might have a chance we pressed a little bit. But ultimately I have to be proud of the players we gave it our best shot but a little bit short on the evening.

“We played some good football I thought once we got into the final third sometime our option taking wasn’t the right one. But I have to be proud of the effort. We took a big team like Chiefs and gave them a run for their money what can I say?”

The former University of Pretoria coach also went on to say that they will now switch their focus back to the NFD.

“We have to focus on that we still have an opportunity to make it in the play-offs. So we gotta get over this we have big game coming next Sunday. Seven games left we have to give it everything we have," he added.
