Club legend on what hampered Pule's Pirates progress

Orlando Pirates legend Lawrence "Killer" Maake has applauded the club's decision to let go of fan-favorite Vincent Pule.

The Buccaneers announced on Tuesday that the skillful winger will be leaving after spending six years with the club.

Maake says injuries hampered the 32-year-old's progress at Pirates, having made just 140 appearances for the Soweto giants.

"I'm okay with the decision, I respect the coach's assessment of his players," Maake tells KickOff.

"He has probably analyzed and concluded that Vincent doesn't fit in his players. Honestly, maybe he was held back by the injury he had.

"It made it difficult for him to get game time. But talking about his performance before the injury, I was not a fan.

"I didn't see a lot of effect coming from him. He couldn't be as effective as the other guys like Patrick Maswangwanyi, so I don't think we need him with the current team and crop of players that we have.

"His position has been filled. Injuries can happen to anybody. Some players can get injured and still come back and be impactful.

"Not so long ago he came in as a sub and I couldn't see what he was doing. For me, he is not the Orlando Pirates type of player.

"But there is a variety of factors that could lead to that. At Wits, he was doing well because he was playing for a team that allowed him the space.

"It could be that when he got to Pirates who were impactful and that didn't allow him a space. At Pirates, the space was not suitable for him.

"I think it's a good decision on his part to move on and try somewhere else so he could be utilized. And I wish him all the best."
