How Bvuma mocking tactics did not work against 'Tito'

It appears Kaizer Chiefs' dare to Orlando Pirates came back to haunt them for the second time after the latest revelations by Patrick Maswanganyi.

Chiefs famously celebrated drawing Pirates in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals last season, with some players and members of management seen overjoyed by the prospect, which did not sit down well with players and supporters of their rivals.

Bucs went on to win the semi-final and eventually the trophy.

There was another seemingly cocky scenario in the recent Soweto Derby, where Maswanganyi scored a late cheeky penalty in added time to hand Jose Riveiro's charges a 1-0 victory.

'Tito' has revealed that actually it was Evidence Makgopa who felt confident of taking the penalty but Amakhosi goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma called on him to take the spot-kick instead.

"I remember Makgopa was holding the ball and Bruce was shouting that he wants me. He kept on shouting: 'Come and take the penalty, I want you!'," Maswanganyi revealed in the latest episode of Bucs Camp documentary series.

"Against Cape Town City, I got a penalty and I missed and I felt bad, especially for my teammates. When I went to the change room, I was crying. A few days after, the coach spoke to me and said: 'Next time when we get a penalty, chip it'.

"The chip, a lot of people call it a panenka, but when you take a penalty like that, it shows that you believe in yourself, but it has its moments. It's not a penalty you can take all the time because sometimes if the goalkeeper doesn't move, people will feel like you were playful," added the 26-year-old.

Makgopa wanted to protect Maswanganyi after the attacker's spot-kick hit the post against The Citizens, who went on to beat Pirates 1-0 a week earlier.

Bvuma was also aware that 'Tito' missing a penalty against City would have a psychological effect, but Riveiro advising Maswanganyi how to handle the situation did the trick.
