'It'll be in the record books forever' - Riveiro lavishes praise on emerging Makgopa

A victorious Jose Riveiro has lavished praise on match-winner Evidence Makgopa who scored the decisive goal in a hard-fought win for Orlando Pirates over Kaizer Chiefs in Saturday's Soweto derby.

Pirates secured a 1-0 win over their cross-town rivals at a sold-out FNB Stadium with the Buccaneers star registering his third goal in recent weeks.

"He's scored at home, and now again he has scored in a derby which will be in the record books forever," a beaming Riveiro said post-match.

"It's going to be a good boost for the boy, but in general, I don't think it makes much sense to play a South African player as a striker being just 21 or 22 years old.

"Who is an exciting prospect where we need to protect the player and create the right atmosphere for them to develop themselves.

"It's good for South African football, it's good for the national team, instead of just creating uncomfortable moments for young players.

"Maybe we want to see our favourite then instead on the field. We need to support our players, and I think Evidence is doing an excellent job.

"I've said already several times I won't speak much about him because his actions are speaking itself on the field.

"People need to look at his overall game, and not just when he is putting the ball into the net."
