Riveiro: It's always an ugly game at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro says it's 'always an ugly game' whenever they play at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium following the win over Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The victory maintained the Soweto giants title pursuit and saw them go within 12-points off table-topping Mamelodi Sundowns as Nkosinathi Sibisi netted the winner.

Playing at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium provides for an unsavoury encounter, as Riveiro indicates it's not a football pitch but believes their hunger to win came through in the end.

"I think it's always an ugly game when you're playing at Old Peter Mokaba, it cannot be the other way around. The shape of the field is terrible, slow, bumpy. It's not a football ground so you have to find ways to not concede and be patient wait for opportunities," Riveiro told SuperSport TV.

"We had a lot of quality opportunities this time it came in a set-piece and like you said massive three points. So, happy to collect here the three points and like I said before the match not many teams can do it against a very disciplined team that today was running an extra-mile.

"They want to win and they have been showing they want to win since day one this season. Nobody can say the opposite and that's why they wanted to win the game. We spoke at halftime and felt that it's coming but we have to be patient and like I said in one of these opportunities, one set-piece we managed to capitalise and then managed to defend very well the lead," he added.

The Buccaneers mentor, who will depart the club at the end of the season, believes they didn't concede many chances against City and is already turning focus to the next encounter.

According to the 49-year-old, the club have been doing their part in playing every game at the requirement limit and signifies the consequence of a competitive outfit.

"I think so, no. I think you should say not us. We've been doing our part and trying to play every game at the limit and that's what we do. Now we have to close the league chapter and then go to the Champions (League) and then we have to fight for another final in the Nedbank.

"Like I said before the game, it's the consequence of being very competitive since day one. This players, group, coaching staff they do wonders this season, let's continue until the end," further added the tactician.
