In this edition of Locker Room Secrets, KickOff catches up with former Orlando Pirates striker Gerald Stober.
Stober, who spent three years with the Buccaneers, reveals the best coach who coached him at the Soweto giants.
Who was always late?
"Nobody came late. We always camped at a hotel one day before the match. Even at training, nobody was late.
"Augusto Palacios, Viktor Bondarenko, and Ronald Mkandawire are the three coaches who coached me during my stay at Pirates. I played there from 1995 to 1998."
Is there any interesting ritual before you played a match?
"All of them at Pirates had their own little things they were doing, but I didn't take too much note. They always had some protective balm that they smeared on the forehead and knees.
"I used to warm up in takkies, and I always put my left boot on first."
Who was the jokester?
"Gavin Lane and Phiri Tsotetsi, and we had also some serious guys like Sam Pam and Okpara Williams."
Was it a muti change room?
"There was no muti in the change room at Pirates during my time there. Such stuff was always done in the hotel a day before the match.
"They always put some white powder inside our soccer boots. But up until now, I still don't understand the purpose. And I don't know what were the reasons, I never asked, I just went along with it."
Who was the singer?
"Everybody liked singing, John Moeti, Dumi Ngobe, Shoes Leshozi. But Phiri Tsotetsi and Bruce Ramokgadi were the main men in that department."
Who was the best dressed and the worst dressed?
"Helman Mkhalele and Sam Pam used to dress well. And the worst dressed should be Gavin Lane [laughs], he always wore casual."
Who never showered?
"Nobody, we all showered."

"Augusto Palacios was good, Bondarenko didn't speak much English, but his instructions were clear through his interpreter. And Mkandawire wasn't bad, but I think Palacios was the best."
