Mashego: Makgopa might end up overseas

Former Orlando Pirates goal poacher Katlego "Mahoota" Mashego predicts a bright future at the club for underrated striker Evidence Makgopa.

Despite not being rated that high by many, the Limpopo-born forward proved to be a thorn to Kaizer Chiefs backline during Saturday's exciting Soweto Derby.

Makgopa scored the only goal of the match in the DStv Premiership clash as the Buccaneers claimed all the bragging rights.

The 23-year-old has so far this season scored two goals in his seven league appearances for the Soweto giants.

"I don't think he went to the Soweto derby to prove anyone wrong," Mashego tells KickOff.

"He has always been a good player; he was scoring goals at Baroka FC before his move to Pirates, and he was also in the national team.

"So, he was just a bit low in confidence, and I'm happy he scored in the derby.

"He scored in what is the biggest game in the country, and I'm sure it will give him even more confidence to go and score more goals.

"We all know he is a good player, and we all know he can score goals, that's why he is at Orlando Pirates.

"So, I don't think he was out to prove anyone wrong, being low in confidence it happens in football.

"But also, he needs to do what he did on Saturday even against the other teams. In the next game, he needs to try and score again.

"You need to be performing consistently against all these other teams to have a great career at Pirates. He will need to do it week in and week out.

"He does have the potential to be Pirates top striker because he is a good player.

"I've always liked what I have seen from him. He's quite an athletic boy he is a good striker.

"He has all the attributes to achieve what he believes he can achieve. He can achieve a lot at Pirates.

"He just needs to stay humble and work a little bit harder, there are certain moves he needs to learn and master.

"Other than that, he's got goals in him, he's a threat. He just needs to turn that into goals. He might end up overseas, he is the type of player overseas clubs would love to have. He is tall, he's athletic, he presses well, he runs well. I like him."
