KickOff can reveal that Stellenbosch FC are targeting an Orlando Pirates defender as part of a swap deal that could see their captain Deano van Rooyen joining the Buccaneers next season.
Pirates are edging closer to signing Van Rooyen in a bid to reinforce their defence for next season.
The Soweto giants have already snapped up Salaelo Rasebotja from SuperSport United to bolster their midfield for the 2024/25 campaign.
Rasebotja has signed a three-year deal with the club as a free agent after Matsatsantsa failed to renew his contract.
Now, Pirates are believed to have offered Thabiso Monyane to Stellies as part of a swap deal that could see Van Rooyen moving in the opposition direction next season.
According to sources close to the Houghton-based outfit, Chippa United have also made inquiries about the availability of Monyane for next season.
"Pirates are desperate to sort out their right back position. The club has approached Stellenbosch for the services of Deano (Van Rooyen).
"Stellies have also been interested in Monyane since last season and there could be a swap deal on the cards," said the source.
Pirates have also been linked with Kegan Johannes from SuperSport.
The Soweto giants have already announced the departure of Richard Ofori, Siyabonga Mpontshane, Fortune Makaringe, Kermit Erasmus, Thabang Monare and Souaibou Marou.
