Augusto Palacios, who worked with Khomane at the Buccaneers, expressed his sorrow, stating that the club had lost a very loyal member.
"I was watching TV when a journalist broke the news to me; I couldn't believe it," Palacios tells KickOff.
"I am only going to see him today on Monday, Yster (Papi's father). He must be devastated by this. I worked with him when Pirates won the league title under Roy Barreto.
"The way Papi managed to balance his football and studies was unbelievable. Every time after training, he went to study. His mother had already retired from work; she was a nurse.
"I am very close to the family because when I arrived in South Africa in 1985, I played against his father, Yster Khomane.
"In Papi, we have lost a player who was very loyal to Pirates. He started at Jomo Cosmos, moved to Pirates, and won the league with them, so he achieved.
"We've lost a leader, a gentleman, a man who respected everyone, and a man who took care of his family.
"In his prime years, nobody could do what Papi did. He was also in love with his studies. My deepest condolences to the family."
