'We are all happy to see Karim happy'

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has provided his assessment of midfielder Karim Kimvuidi, who was on the score sheet during their 4-0 hammering of Disciples FC in the CAF Champions League second-leg tie of the first preliminary round.

The first goal had a stroke of fortune about it as Andoniana Rakatondrazaka turned the ball into his own net trying to thwart danger from Tshegofatso Mabasa after a sublime pass from Monnapule Saleng.

Relebohile Mofokeng, Patrick Maswanganyi and Karim Kimvuidi added their names to score sheet as the Madagascans, who bravely held their more illustrious opponents to a 0-0 draw in the first leg, were well and truly vanquished.

For Kimvuidi, the goal was his third in Buccaneers' colours and the first of his second season with the side since his arrival from relegated Maritzburg United (now Durban City).

Speaking at the post-match press conference, the head coach said he believed the goal would do the Congolese's confidence the world of good with a long campaign ahead.

"It can only help him to use the time he is getting," said Riveiro.

"It is really difficult to get playing time in this group, especially in the position where Karim used to play. He played as one of the three players up front, one of the three forwards.

"He played in a slightly different space than the space he is used to playing in, and that's what the players need to do whenever they come to the field for 10, 15 or 30 minutes - show who they are as football players, who they are during the week at training, and how well prepared they are. Don't miss your opportunity.

"Tonight, Karim... let's say the goal is a positive thing. I think it will help him be more confident next time.

"Also, for the fans to see Karim scoring, I think it's very good news, which is probably not his strength [scoring].

"He is more of a player who used to be in the last pass or second-last pass, but this is good news for all of us and Karim is trying hard. So, we are all happy to see Karim happy, actually."
