Following a debate on whether jersey numbers should be retired as well as what makes a legend, Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has opened up on how he views things from his angle.
The issue of retired jerseys, why and who deserves to have his number retired, came to the fore after comparisons were made between Patrick Maswanganyi and Jomo Sono.

The Pirates midfielder has only been able to wear jersey number 10 in CAF matches, with fans feeling he deserves to wear it even domestically.
Sono, whose number 10 has been retired at the club, has previously stated he has no problem with it being taken out of retirement but that it has to be for a player who can be comparable to him during his playing days.
The outspoken Jomo Cosmos owner, however, seems to have offended Maswanganyi after suggesting that he, 'an elephant' during his time at the club, can't be compared to 'an ant', in reference to 'Tito'.
Riveiro has weighed in on the matter.
"I don't think Patrick or anybody else is trying to take someone's space. I think legends are legends for a reason in the club and it's because the fans love you and nothing else," he said in the latest episode of Bucs Camp documentary series.
"Even if you provide the best numbers ever in the history (of the club) but the people don't love you, you're not gonna be a legend, you're just going to be a good provider in the club, a good sign or a good whatever but not a legend. The fans will make you a legend.

"I don't think 'Tito' or anybody else will take the space of Mr. Jomo Sono in Pirates fans' hearts. I don't see a bad intention, just a lack of maybe skills to understand what is your position right now, how much you can contribute to the new talented players to understand the profession better, because at the end of the day, these people are also listening to what these people are saying," Riveiro added.
Kaizer Chiefs have also retired jersey number 15, once worn by Doctor Khumalo, in honour of his contribution to the club.
