RISING STARS: Pirates sign highly-rated La Masia star

Orlando Pirates have strengthened their DStv Diski Challenge team with the signing of highly-rated talent Seth Green from NB La Masia, who were relegated from the Motsepe Foundation Championship at the end of last season.

The Buccaneers started their Reserve League campaign with a goalless draw against AmaZulu FC Reserves at King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban over the weekend.

On the day, Green made his debut, donning the number 7 jersey and playing on the right wing.

Despite doing well in getting himself in the right position to score on two occasions, the 20-year-old was unlucky not to find the back of the net.

Green was one of the most highly-rated players to emerge from the NB La Masia team in the second tier last season and despite the club's drop back to the ABC Motsepe League, had always been expected to secure a move elsewhere.

He will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Pirates' Diski Challenge graduates who are now playing for the first team.

That list includes Thabiso Sesane, Mohau Nkota and, most notably, Relebohile Mofokeng.

Meanwhile, Pirates' draw leaves them in seventh position on the table, while Cape Town City sit at the summit on goal difference after their 6-2 victory over Sekhukhune United.

The Citizens are level on points with Mamelodi Sundowns, Chippa United and Kaizer Chiefs.

Next up, Joseph Makhanya's charges are set to host the log leaders on Saturday for matchday 2 of the DDC Reserve League.
