The truth about Tito and Europe…

The intermediary who masterminded Patrick 'Tito' Maswanganyi's move to Portugal five years ago has raised his voice about the Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana midfielder.

'Tito' had an impressive debut season at Orlando Pirates last term and has stepped up to Bafana this year.

Focus has zoomed in on him.

"I'm happy that Tito is in a good space enjoying his football at Pirates and Bafana," says Nadime Mahmoud, who was behind Maswanganyi's move to Portugal in 2019 after taking him from Stars of Africa academy.

Mahmoud is still based in Portugal and holds an executive role at Stars of Africa.

In Portugal, Maswanganyi played for lower division club Oliveirense, before switching to Academica's U23 team, following which he came back home to play for SuperSport United for a season, before Pirates snatched him.

"For me, this is what needs to be celebrated so that he feels encouraged to keep improving instead of creating all other types of things around him.

"It impossible for Tito to come back to Oliveirense.

"Why would he even consider coming back to a bottom-placed Second Division team in Portugal that could end up in the Third Division?

"Does it make sense?

"Do you think he will still be in the national team playing for a struggling Second Division club in Portugal?

"Just so that you know, the Portuguese Second Division is not at the same level as the English Second Division (Championship).

"Tito is in the national team playing his best football for Pirates, who are campaigning to win the league and playing in the Champions League group stages.

"For me, it doesn't make sense to come to Oliveirense knowing what is happening there.

"Tito was here at Oliveirense before and knows what I'm talking about.

"If he is to come back to Europe, then it will be elsewhere," says Mahmoud.
