Key to Pirates consistency in title race with Downs revealed?

Orlando Pirates may not match Mamelodi Sundowns with the market value of their players but there's something they have learned from them, according to Lebohang Mokoena.

There were always suggestions that in order for PSL teams to compete with The Brazilians, they may need to spend big on players.

However, Pirates have so far kept in touch with the near-perfect Sundowns in the Betway Premiership, without the so called big signings.

The Buccaneers head coach Jose Riveiro has recently been giving other players, who were forgotten like Boitumelo Radiopane a chance.

It may have looked insignificant when the Pirates players decided to give the 22-year-old striker a penalty in the dying minutes against Marumo Gallants in an 8-1 rout.

But former Buccaneer midfielder Lebohang Mokoena has observed how the moment shows the brotherhood and camaraderie which he believes they learned from Sundowns.

"Consistency is key at Chloorkop, it's something you're looking forward to seeing at Pirates, the brotherhood, I've seen it, they've done it with Radiopane, with the penalty," Mokoena said on SoccerBeat YouTube Channel.

"I think that's something they are learning from Sundowns, that's why you will find that it's easy for Sundowns to rotate the squad and still get the results.

"You still get players in good shape. I think Pirates is learning from Sundowns on how to do a couple of things, I think they 60, 80 percent getting them right," 'Cheeseboy' added.

Radiopane went on to get more minutes in a 1-0 win over Magesi after he came on at half-time to replace Evidence Makgopa.

Sundowns gave the same gesture to striker Arthur Sales to score his first goal for the club from the penalty spot in a 3-0 win over Sekhukhune United.

Sales has since become an integral part of the team and scored the first goal in a 2-0 win over Richards Bay.
