Pirates technical team praised after latest grind

The Orlando Pirates technical team, led by head coach Jose Riveiro, has received praise for their resilience in the match against Cape Town City in Johannesburg on Saturday.

The introduction of the likes of Goodman Mosele and Mohau Nkota helped Pirates recover from being one goal down to secure a 2-1 victory in the Betway Premiership at Orlando Stadium.

"Coming back from a goal down to win the match demonstrates the character of the players. It shows they are now playing as a team," notes former Bucs goalkeeper Thabani Stemmer.

"Coach Muhsin Ertugral opted for a low block and relied on counter-attacks, which suited Cape Town City well given their pace.

"This was understandable since they faced Pirates right after their game against Marumo Gallants, while Pirates had the advantage of having rested.

"If they had taken a 2-0 lead, it would have been challenging for us to make a comeback.

"Yes, Nkota's introduction in the second half really changed the game, but I want to commend the technical team because all the substitutions had a positive impact on the goals we scored," he adds.

Stemmer believed the introduction of the subs allowed the Soweto giants to utilise the wings effectively.

"Prior to that, Cape Town City were very compact against us, which limited Relebohile Mofokeng's effectiveness in this match. Coach Muhsin is quite a tactician.

"Therefore, credit goes to the Pirates technical team for bringing out the best in the players."
