Retired Pirates star: Teko was a football god

Retired footballer Katlego Mashego has opened up on his on-field partnership with Teko Modise as the pair formed a deadly combination together at SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates.

One of South African football's most lethal strikers, 'Mahoota' boasts an impressive record of scoring for every club he played for in the top flight of South African football.

In addition to winning he Golden Boot during his time with Moroka Swallows, the striker's more memorable time would be when he was at Matsatsantsa and the Buccaneers, where he scored a combined 39 goals from 121 appearances.

Alongside Mashego at both these teams was Modise, who won the PSL Footballer of the Season award back-to-back while at Pirates.

Speaking on Marawa Sports Worldwide, Mashego shared some insight into his partnership with Modise.

"Dona, I speak about him a lot because Teko was a God," Mashego said on MSW.

"He was a South African football God. What he did and what he achieved on and off the field is something that was never done in South Africa. He changed how people looked at South African football players and he could play.

"That dude could play, Teko could play. The one thing that that made him achieve what he did was that she did was Teko liked to train and he ran and gave his all.

"Training for him is like a game (an official match). He does the same thing in training that he does in the game, consistently so.

"When he's injured and he can't play he is so miserable, he wears things that hide his face he just wants to play.

"There was a time at Pirates when things were not going well for him and he would be  so sad off the pitch when he got out of his car you could see he was just dragging his feet but as soon as he went onto the pitch he was a monster.

"I liked him, we just clicked at SuperSport well because we got there at the same time and you know we used to share a room in camp and we like the same things. So, the relationship developed also in the team."
