Polokwane sign Kenyan goalkeeper

Ahead of a season where they will be competing in the MTN8, Polokwane City are set to announce Kenya national team goalkeeper Brian Bwire as their newest addition.

According to Pulse Sport, the Tusker FC goalkeeper is awaiting release documents from the club for his free transfer to Rise and Shine.

Bwire's contract with Tusker is said to be expiring in a month's time from now.

"The deal is done, but we are only waiting on Tusker to officially release him so he can enjoy his new venture in South Africa," a source told Pulse Sports.

With his deal coming to an end, Bwire is now within his rights to join a team of his choice, which in this case is the South African Premier Soccer League side.

At only 24 years of age, Bwire will be a huge investment for Polokwane City, who currently have Manuel Kapunga, Lindokuhle Mathebula, Masizakhe Myataza and Amos Mokwena in their goalkeeping department.

In the 2023/24 season, City finished in the Top Eight, and will battle league champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the quarterfinals of the MTN8.

Last term, the Limpopo province-based club side impressively kept 15 clean sheets from their 30 league matches.

Current first-choice keeper Sapunga managed to keep no less than 12 clean sheets, while Mathebula kept three.

Meanwhile, Lucky Baloyi, Ndumiso Mabena and Given Mashikinya have all been released as the club looks to introduce some young blood to the team.
